Hello classmates, and welcome to my English IV blog (as a continuation of English III blog). This time I'm going to write about the city I'm living in; Santiago de Chile.

Santiago is the capital city of Chile. It's situated between Valparaiso and O'Higgins regions, and as well as Brussels, it's the political, financial and cultural centre of the country. The official language is Spanish. The population is around 6.3 million inhabitants in the Metropolitan area.

There are many interesting things of Santiago, such as the historical centre (located in downtown) and the cultural heritage, so you can find buildings of almost every architectural style (from neoclassical to contemporary).

If you want to get around the city, there are three principal transport systems: Via buses (Transantiago), underground (Metro) and taxi. However, I think that the public transit network could be better, because many users complain about it.

If you go to Santiago, you should visit these places:

1. Cerro Santa Lucia: A small hill in the centre of the city. It borders on Avenida Libertador General Bernardo O'Higgins (popularly known as Alameda, one of the main avenues of Santiago), Santa Lucia and Victoria Subercaseaux.

To get there by Metro, you go out of Santa Lucia station (at the northern exit) and you'll be in front of the National Library (Biblioteca Nacional). Take the first right, and go past the park, so you'll see a yellow and white facade. There is the main entrance to Santa Lucia Hill.

2. Plaza de Armas: A historic square where you can find several artistic and cultural activities.

The easiest way to get there is by Metro, because you go outside right in the square.

3. Barrio Bellavista: A very bohemian neighbourhood, where you can find lots of bars and nightclubs to enjoy with friends.

To get there, you get off in Baquedano station and walk north. Go straight until you cross the bridge over the Mapocho river. Keep going north by Pio Nono to the next crossroad and have fun!
